Dream Basketball: Dunk & Hoop is a basketball game from Human Entertainment that was released exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom in late 1994. The player can choose between a regular match of basketball, featuring two baskets and teams of five, or a 3-on-3 mode which is focused on one basket. Up to five human players can join in on either mode, provided a multi-tap peripheral is available.
The game features sixteen fictional basketball teams as well as one all-star team that is only available in the Exhibition mode. They include: The Photons, the Comets, the Flames, the Vikings, the Arrows, the Tomahawks, the Rollers, the Stingrays, the Langers (possibly meant to be Rangers), the Rings, the Waves, the Wizards, the Unicorns, the Tridents, the Sprinters, the Serpents. The all-star team is simply called Japan.
The object of the game is to knock down as many pins in 10 frames of bowling. The game gives the player an overhead view of a bowling lane. The player's bowling ball starts out moving left and right across the front of the lane. This has the player trying to get the lane position they want the ball to start traveling down. Once the ball starts rolling down the lane, the player can curve the ball left or right. Once the curve has started, it can't be changed further.
The game has 18 variations. They involve choosing the combination of number of players (1 or 2), then speed of play (slow, normal, fast, and fastest), and selecting a regular or split game. Regular games start with all pins standing in each frame while the split games have a random number of pins missing and the player has 2 balls to knock down the remaining ones.
League Bowling is an arcade game released in 1991 by SNK for the Neo Geo console and arcade systems. The game was unique in that it was the first arcade to put emphasis on bowling. The players controls characters with red and blue hair and can select balls from 8 to 15 pounds.
Control either Julius Erving or Larry Bird in front of a single basket, in a game of one on one. The user can select to play either to a certain score or for a certain amount of time. When on offense, the player can rotate to keep away from his rival, take a shot from a distance or move in to the basket for special up-close slam-dunks. When on defense, you can try to take your rival's ball or jump up to block a shot. Particularly good set-ups get a slow-motion replay. You can even smash the glass on the backboard, which will send an irate janitor onto the court to clean up the mess.
