Review: Western JRPG, and it plays like a boardgame!

I got really into into Battle Chasers, especially on the go with the Switch it was a perfect companion for travels and long flights. It takes a some great elements of JRPG and give them a western touch to keep things fresh! While it can be a bit grindy (that's the jrpg part..) making the whole thing feel like a tabletop/boardgame was really neat for me. Switching constantly between the various 'modes' (Worldmap, dungeon crawling, and fights) really kept things fresh.

Sadly i didn't finish it, mostly because the story really didn't keep me too engaged. The artstyle and animation at top notch, but the world and story felt pretty cliche and unoriginal. Nothing really terrible mind you, but i wouldn't put it as one of the main point of praise.

Fighting mechanics were pretty clever, and quickly becomes challenging. Each character does feel very unique with their abilities and you end up having to try specifics ways of using each of them, love the strategic aspects of some tougher fights.

if you're looking for a JRPG but are usually a bit put off by their usual lenght and grinding, give this a try. it has some clever mechanics and looks awesome.
